Located in the legendary Rub'Al Khali, the largest uninterrupted sand desert in the world, Qasr Al Sarab five-star desert resort by Anantara embraces the epic adventures of the evocative landscape by providing a luxury oasis for discerning travellers. It has a range of over 200 rooms, four dining venues, a fitness centre, tennis court, swimming pool, kids club, business centre and library.
The resort generates large volumes of recyclable waste and mixed waste on a daily basis. They used large cages for loose cardboard and plastic, which filled frequently and occupied large amounts of space. In addition, transporting both recyclable and non-recycling waste from such a remote location was proving an expensive venture.
Qasr Al Sarab decided to improve their waste handling and reduce the frequency with which their waste was collected.
Mil-tek provided Qasr Al Sarab with a total waste management solution including a 205 baler so staff could bale cardboard, soft plastic, PET plastic bottles, an insert to crush cans and an X-Press 200 waste compactor for compacting mixed waste. They were also provided with a Lift Trolley, to transport compacted waste.
The efficiency of their waste handling processes is greatly improved, allowing staff to maximize the storage capacity available.
The recyclable waste is stored in bales and transported to the local recycler who pays a high rate on baled waste. With the X-Press waste compactor, the volume of general waste has been compressed, meaning the cost and frequency of transporting this waste has also been reduced.
